Great Non-fiction books to read on globalization, culture Eastern?

I am very fond of reading non-fiction that deals with globalization and also at international geopolitical issues. Any suggestions on what to read? Also, I am very interested in learning about culture Contemporary East, particularly in the Balkans, the Middle East, Turkey, etc. all good recommendations there? Thank you! (oh, and other than the Earth is flat Thomas Friedman)
