How to properly handle fruits and vegetables in a grocery store!?

I just got a new job in a shop, the fruit and vegetables and gourmet food sold. My boss has told me to handle, such as fruits and see if they are ok to go on the shelves. The business I work a sort of deli store is like so that better than an average supermarket. I wanted some tips on how to handle and test the fruits such as tomatoes, mandarins, Avocados, apples, bananas and kiwis to see whether they are likely to bring to the market. I really want to do the best I can this job so i need some help! Thanks a lot!:)
