I have an ADT security system with motion sensors…how to disable one room?
I have an ADT security system (just with motion detectors, the little white rectangles) in my house and I recently got a new puppy. We usually set the system when we go out to keep the house safe.
We plan on putting the dog in the kitchen when we go out. There is a little rectangular motion detector in the room that makes sure no one is in the kitchen. We have these detectors around the house, where all of the entrances are…so that if someone were to come in it would sense them.
My question now is, would it be possible to disable just one of the sensors (in the kitchen) when we go out and leave the dog in? I would prefer to leave the sensor in place so that when everyone(including the dog) is out of the house that we can still set it. Could i just put some duct/electrical tape over the one detector? I plan on upgrading the system in a little bit but we just need a temporary solution.
Thanks in advance
You have a few options.
The best one is to bypass the zone. This would have to be done everytime you arm before you leave. And the steps to enter in your keypad would all depend on what type of system you have. You can either check your user manual to find out the steps for bypassing for call your monitoring station. But do you have pet proof motions? The company I work for mostly installs pet proof motions which don’t recognize a certain weight. This can also be found out through your monitoring station. But depening on what type of dog you have when he gets bigger this solution may not work as motions pick up medium-large size dogs.
Do not duct tape it! Lol. The motion would constantly recognize something in front of it and you would not be able to arm your system.
Your other option is to ask your monitoring station or a service technician to null the zone out. This isn’t the best idea because it would just be like the motion does not exist in that room. But it is an option.
Find out if you have pet proof motions, then you won’t have to worry about it. If not, just bypass the zone each time before you arm to leave your home. Its quite simple.
