If I dont have a standing mixer and the recipe calls for……?
the dough to b mixed on low for 8 minutes with a dough hook, how could I do it? or should I just look for another recipe that doesnt require equipment I dont have. I realy only have a blender (with no lid) and hand held electric mixer. My food processor broke last year and hasnt been replaced. I want to make soft pretzels
Try this recipe:
Ballpark Pretzels
1 1/4 cup warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 teaspoons baking soda
1 quart water
1 egg, beaten with 2 teaspoons water
Kosher salt
Combine warm water, sugar and yeast in a mixing bowl; set in a warm spot. After 15 minutes, it should begin to foam and bubble.
Add salt and half the flour; mix well with a wooden spoon. Turn the dough onto a floured surface; gradually knead in the remaining flour to form a smooth dough. Knead for 5 minutes; transfer to an oiled bowl and coat evenly with oil; set in a warm, draft-free spot until doubled (about 30 minutes).
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Punch the dough down and roll it into a log. Divide into 12 even pieces; roll each piece into a 16 to 18 inch rope and shape into pretzel-shape.
Combine the baking soda and quart of water and boil. Lower each pretzel into the boiling water until it floats (about 30 seconds). Drain; transfer to a greased baking sheet. Brush the pretzels with egg mixture and sprinkle with Kosher salt.
Cover pretzels with cloth and let rise for 5 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes.
